Expert: Paris can no longer mediate between Baku and Yerevan

France can no longer be considered a neutral party in the process of normalizing ties between Azerbaijan and Armenia, political scientist Zaur Mammadov said.
"For 30 years now, literally every year, we have seen how France aggravates the situation. And today, in the activities of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and French President Emmanuel Macron, we again see a repetition of the steps that Jacques Chirac and Robert Kocharyan took in the 1990s and the 2000s," he said.
At the same time, the political scientist noted that following the results of the Prague meeting in October, in which the President of France also took part, a statement was adopted, according to which Armenia and Azerbaijan recognized each other's territorial integrity. "Thus, both Armenia and France confirmed that they recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including Karabakh," he added.
"After the meeting, we see that the situation is aggravated by statements from France, namely the statements of Macron, representatives of his party, who discuss Armenian issues every day, forgetting about the socio-economic problems of Paris itself," Mammadov said, noting that France, influenced by the Armenian diaspora, forgets about European security issues, the war in Ukraine and other pressing issues. He suggested that all these actions are clearly financed by the Armenian diaspora.
"The Armenian diaspora understands that through France they will be able to continue to undermine the process of normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan," he said.
The political scientist added that Azerbaijan has long left the OSCE Minsk Group in the past, and at the current post-conflict stage, France cannot be considered a trusted mediator in the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
