Ambassador: Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan eye increasing trade to $1B
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are planning to increase the trade turnover between the two countries to $1 billion a year, Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Serzhan Abdikarimov told journalists at a press conference.
In the economic perspective, the parties aim to reach $1 billion in trade per year. Today, new projects are being developed, trading houses of the two countries are operating. Also, the possibility of creating a Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, a transport and communication corridor from East to West along the historical Great Silk Road and many other projects are important aspects of the development of bilateral relations, Abdikarimov noted.
"This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. As an embassy, we have implemented a number of initiatives in connection with this event. We are currently working on a documentary film on this topic, and a book is being prepared for publication,” the ambassador said.
He noted that the two countries have a long history of relations, a common language and culture. Over the years, a new level of partnership has emerged: a stable political dialogue, economic ties, mutual support in the international arena.
In August, Kazakh President Kassym Jomart Tokayev paid his first visit to Azerbaijan. As the Kazakh leader emphasized, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are strategic partners and allies, the ambassador said. This visit, which was marked by the adoption of a joint declaration, summed up 30 years of relations and laid the foundation for their new stage, Abdikarimov noted.
There are also extensive ties in the humanitarian sphere between the two countries. "In our country, the Azerbaijani diaspora is part of the people of Kazakhstan, which makes these ties even more in demand,” he said.
