China reports new case of human infection with bird flu

A new case of human infection with highly pathogenic bird flu virus - H5N1 - has been recorded in China, Hong Kong healthcare authorities said on Wednesday, citing colleagues from Mainland China.

The infection was confirmed in a 38-year old woman in the city of Qīngzhōu in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region after she had contacts with domestic birds. The patient died in hospital.

Since 2005, China has recorded 54 cases of human infection with H5N1 virus.
