The authorities of Kazakhstan intend to increase the volume of oil exported from the republic through Azerbaijan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said on April 10 at a media briefing following talks with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, reported from TASS.

"We paid special attention to building up cooperation in the field of energy. Today, our priority task is to further diversify the supply of energy resources to global markets. As you know, thanks to our agreements, the first batch of Kazakh oil was shipped through Azerbaijan this year. The next step is to increase the volume of supplies and giving them a long-term, stable nature,” Tokayev noted.

He also noted the importance of fully unlocking the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. "We are talking about improving logistics services, creating unified transport operators, modernizing technical and tariff conditions, eliminating administrative barriers and creating a closed logistics cycle. The effective implementation of the roadmap for the development of the Middle Corridor for 2022-2027 is also of great importance. We agreed that it is important to take full advantage of the increased interest in this route and involve third countries in its infrastructure development. All these measures, as well as close cooperation with our international partners, will ensure the stability and efficiency of cargo delivery in the East-West direction,” he said.

Tokayev reminded that active work is currently underway to lay a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between the two countries. "Given the strategic importance of this project, we instructed to ensure its timely launch. Along with this, Azerbaijani partners are invited to implement joint projects in the field of digitalization of public services, as well as to use Kazakh platforms for IT startups. There is also a big backlog in the area of financial cooperation,” he stressed.
