2 Finnish cities offer to host NATO infrastructure

2 Finnish cities offer to host NATO infrastructure
19.04.2023 17:12
Already two Finnish cities - Riihimäki and Kauhava, two weeks after the country's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance, have offered to place NATO infrastructure on their territory, reported ftom foreign media.

According to experts, Finland's accession to NATO will bring additional investments, in particular, in the development of the infrastructure of municipalities, where any units of the alliance will be located. At the same time, no decisions on NATO infrastructure in Finland have been made.

The mayor of Kauhava, Vesa Rantala, justifies in a press release the desire to place the NATO base in a good location of the city, also pointing out that until 2015, the only military airfield in Finland operated in Kauhava

Riihimaki Mayor Jouni Eho assures in a press release that many structures and units of the Defense Forces are already operating in the city and the alliance structures will not require large initial investments.

Both leaders are confident that cooperation with NATO has the potential to create new businesses in municipalities and open up new funding opportunities both through the EU and through NATO.

Finland became the 31st member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on April 4, 2023.
