The European Union (EU) will spend 45 million euros on the modernization of the subway in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and related infrastructure. The funds will be allocated from the budget of the European Investment Bank, reported from the tender documents for the selection of a contractor.

As part of the modernization, it is planned to purchase five-car metro trains and spare parts, and conduct training for the staff.

The day before, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, at the European Conference on Defense and Security, said that the total assistance to Ukraine from the countries and organizations of the union had reached 16 billion euros.
