Peter Stano: EU supports intensification of Baku-Yerevan talks

The EU is confident that the issue of normalizing relations between Yerevan and Baku should be resolved exclusively by peaceful means, through dialogue, reads commentary of spokesperson for the head of European diplomacy Peter Stano.

According to Stano, the process of negotiations between Yerevan and Baku has intensified over the past month, and Brussels supports this trend. 

He stressed that in the May 14 talks in Brussels with the participation of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the head of the European Council, the parties focused on several key topics, including the opening of communications.

"Since then, the leaders have publicly reaffirmed their unconditional commitment to the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration and the respective territorial integrity of Armenia (29,800 sq. km.) and Azerbaijan (86,600 sq. km.). We welcome the bold statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on this issue dated May 22 and the clear readiness of Armenia to work on the delimitation of the bilateral border. We also welcome the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on May 25,” he said.
