Int’l organization: Armenia mine-producing country

The International Campaign to Ban Landmines has noted that Armenia is a mine-producing country, according to the Landmine Monitor international organization.

It was reported that in previous years the number of mine-producing countries had decreased from 55 to 11, however, given that Armenia is also a mine producer, it was found that 12 countries were producing mines.

Azerbaijan didn’t join the convention on banning landmines. "It was officially stated that Azerbaijan supports the goals of this convention, but was unable to accede to it due to the lack of a peace treaty with Armenia. Despite the aggression from Armenia, Azerbaijan didn’t plant landmines. Since 2005, Azerbaijan has voted in the General Assembly. The UN supports the universalization of this agreement and annually votes in support of resolutions, and has also repeatedly stated that it doesn’t produce or export anti-personnel mines, but conducts demining and continues to conduct educational programs in connection with mine dangers,” reads the statement.
