Airports near Moscow and in Kaluga closed amid security concerns — official

Airports in Russia’s Moscow region and the city of Kaluga have suspended all arrivals and departures due to temporary flight restrictions, Russia’s aviation authority said early Wednesday.

According to a statement by Federal Air Transport Agency spokesperson Artyom Korenyako on Telegram, Zhukovsky Airport and Kaluga Airport halted operations from 1:00 a.m. and 12:45 a.m. Moscow time, respectively.

“The temporary restrictions have been introduced to ensure the safety of civil aviation,” Korenyako wrote.

Such airport closures are typically implemented in response to potential threats from Ukrainian drone activity. Zhukovsky is a small regional airport located southeast of Moscow.
