Russian President Vladimir Putin is continuing to demand the annexation of four Ukrainian regions as a condition for ending the war, despite U.S. pressure, Bloomberg reported, citing sources close to the Kremlin.

The demand, the outlet said, undermines U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker a ceasefire and secure a lasting end to hostilities. Frustration is reportedly growing within the White House over the lack of progress in talks.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump “remains optimistic about ending the war in Ukraine but views the situation realistically.”
