U.S. Congress backs Trump’s bill to cut federal spending

The U.S. House Budget Committee has recommended the approval of a spending cut bill introduced by former President Donald Trump’s administration.

According to Report, the vote was broadcast by C-SPAN and passed with 17 votes in favor, 16 against, and 4 abstentions. The bill had previously failed a similar vote last Friday after five Republican lawmakers opposed it. It will now proceed to the full House of Representatives.

Described by Trump as a “unified, big, beautiful bill,” the legislation proposes significant tax reductions and cuts in various areas of government spending, while increasing funding for defense and border security.

Critics, primarily from the Democratic Party, argue that the bill prioritizes tax breaks for the wealthy and threatens to strip millions of Americans of subsidized health insurance.
