Iran links nuclear transparency to sanctions relief

Iran is willing to allow enhanced oversight of its nuclear facilities if sanctions are lifted, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with SNN television.
“We are not abandoning our rights, but we can take transparency measures if sanctions are removed,” he stated.
Araghchi said the uranium enrichment issue remains unresolved and that talks will continue “until the U.S. agrees.
” If Washington insists on a full halt to enrichment, “no agreement will be reached,” he added.
He also called for revisions to the sanctions-related provisions of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying, “The JCPOA is not dead yet, but it cannot be revived. It should be forgotten.”
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump believes negotiations with Iran are “on the right track.
” Trump discussed the matter with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who also raised the killing of two Israeli diplomats in Washington.
CNN reported earlier that Israel is preparing a potential strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The fifth round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks is scheduled for May 23 in Rome.
