White House seeks to ease Musk-Trump tensions — reports

U.S. Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles urged Elon Musk to end his public feud with President Donald Trump, according to WSJ and NYT, citing sources.

The call reportedly took place on June 6, and on June 9, Musk reached out to Trump, expressing regret for his earlier remarks. Musk later posted on social media platform X that some of his comments about Trump “went too far.”

The feud erupted on June 5, when Musk said Trump would not have won the 2024 election without his support, backed impeachment efforts, and criticized the White House’s budget policies and tariffs. Trump responded by accusing Musk of incompetence and threatened to cancel government contracts with his companies, including SpaceX.

In a later podcast, Trump said he does not “hold a grudge” and hinted that reconciliation is possible, though not a current priority.
