Mohammad Taghi Yousefvand, the head of the intelligence service of Iran’s Basij militia, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Tehran on June 23, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed on Tuesday.

Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office said on June 24 that Israeli forces had “eliminated hundreds of Basij operatives,” describing the group as “a repressive tool of a terrorist regime.”

The Basij, one of the five main branches of the IRGC, is responsible for internal security and public order across Iran, with units in most cities.
