Trump accuses Musk of ‘chaos and confusion’ over new party plans

President Donald Trump has slammed tech billionaire Elon Musk for launching a political party called the “America Party,” calling the move “ridiculous” and accusing Musk of contributing to “total chaos.”
“It’s sad to watch Elon Musk totally go off the rails and become a disaster over the last five weeks,” Trump wrote Sunday on Truth Social. “He even wants to start a third political party, even though they’ve never worked in the U.S. – the system just isn’t built for them. All third parties do is create total destruction and chaos, which we already have enough of thanks to the radical left Democrats who’ve lost their minds.”
Earlier that day, speaking to reporters before departing New Jersey, Trump reiterated his criticism.
“The creation of a third party is ridiculous,” he said. “The Republican Party and I have had tremendous success. The U.S. has always had a two-party system. A third party would just create more confusion.”
Trump’s comments came a day after Musk filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on July 6 to register the “America Party” (AMEP). The application is currently listed as “unprocessed.”
On July 5, Musk announced the move following a poll on his platform X, where over 1.2 million users voted. About 65.4% supported the formation of a new party. Musk said the party would “bring back your freedom” and blamed both existing parties for corruption, overspending, and what he described as “one-party rule disguised as democracy.”
