Turkey launches investigation into opposition leader Özgür Özel over alleged threats to president

Turkish authorities have launched an investigation into Özgür Özel, leader of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), over alleged insults and threats directed at President Tayyip Erdogan, local media reported on Monday.
The probe, led by the Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office, was initiated following Özel’s remarks at a press conference held on July 5 after a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee. Özel reportedly warned of taking people to the streets in response to recent anti-corruption operations.
The investigation is ongoing, and no official statement has been issued yet.
