Armenian parliament lifts immunity of opposition MP Sarkisyan over coup, terror plot case

Armenia’s parliament has voted to strip opposition MP Artur Sarkisyan of immunity from prosecution, paving the way for criminal charges linked to an alleged coup attempt and terror plot.
According to local media, 62 lawmakers backed the prosecutor general’s request, with no votes against. Opposition factions boycotted the vote.
Sarkisyan is being investigated in the same case that led to the earlier arrest of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan.
Prosecutors are expected to soon file a request for his detention.
