Armenian opposition MP Sarkisyan to be arrested over alleged coup and terror plot

Armenia’s parliament has approved the arrest of opposition MP Artur Sarkisyan, accused of plotting terrorist attacks aimed at overthrowing the constitutional order.
Following a closed-door vote, 62 lawmakers supported the prosecutor general’s request. Opposition parties boycotted the session.
Sarkisyan, who called the charges “politically motivated,” voluntarily arrived at the Investigative Committee building, where he is expected to be detained. Prosecutors will now seek a court order for his formal arrest.
He is a close ally of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who was previously arrested in the same case.
