Turkey detains 10 in Istanbul municipality corruption probe

Turkish authorities have detained 10 people as part of a corruption investigation involving the Istanbul municipality, Cumhuriyet newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Since March 2025, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has been held in pre-trial detention on corruption charges. A court had previously rejected prosecutors’ request to arrest him in a separate terrorism-related case.
Imamoglu was re-elected in 2024 with a nearly 12% lead over the ruling party’s candidate. CHP has launched a petition demanding his release and the announcement of early elections.
