One of Azerbaijan’s oldest mosques is on the brink of collapse

One of Azerbaijan’s oldest mosques, built in 748 in the village of Gryz in the Quba district, is on the verge of collapse, residents say.
According to locals, the Abu Muslim mosque has lost its structural columns and only the outer walls remain, while its carved wooden elements lie scattered around the village. Another historic mosque with a minaret dating back to the 18th–19th centuries in Birinji Nugadi is also in critical condition, with a damaged roof, large cracks, and a closed-off second floor.
The State Service for the Protection and Restoration of Cultural Heritage said restoration projects can be funded through state funds, private investment, or donations. The agency expressed readiness to assist any parties interested in initiating restoration efforts.
