Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s 50-day ultimatum threatening 100% tariffs gives Russia a strategic advantage, The Washington Post reported on Monday.

Analysts cited by the paper say Trump’s move reflects a delaying tactic that allows Moscow to strengthen ties with China and North Korea, bolster its battlefield position in Ukraine, and increase pressure on Europe.

Earlier, Trump warned he would impose sweeping tariffs on Russia and its trade partners if a peace deal on Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
