OSCE vice-president Barnett meets Azerbaijani speaker

On 1 July 2014 the vice-president and head of the German delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Doris Barnett, met for talks with the speaker of the parliament (Milli Meclis) of Azerbaijan, Ogtay Asadov. 

The two parliamentarians agreed  that a political solution must be found not only to the conflict in Ukraine, but also to the dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and that to the end, further international mediation efforts where necessary, mutual understanding and a rapprochement between all parties. 

They discussed in particular the mediating role which could be played in that regard at the parliamentary level, for example through ad hoc working groups that bring together the parties to the conflict and mediators.

A parliamentary liaison group is currently being established by the OSCE PA in connection with the crisis in Ukraine.
