Turkey detains 21 in new anti-corruption sweep linked to Istanbul municipality

Turkish authorities have detained 21 people in a new anti-corruption operation targeting alleged irregularities in contracts awarded by the Istanbul municipality, Sabah newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The investigation found procurement violations involving municipal companies İSFALT and İETT. A court issued arrest warrants for 25 individuals, and operations were carried out in six cities, including Istanbul, Antalya, and Bursa.

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been in custody at Silivri prison since March 23 on corruption charges.
