 U.S. Senator Adam Schiff is under criminal investigation for allegedly falsifying documents to obtain favorable mortgage terms, Fox News reported on Tuesday, citing a source in President Donald Trump’s administration.

According to the report, federal prosecutors in Maryland are reviewing claims that Schiff misrepresented his primary residence in multiple mortgage refinancing applications between 2009 and 2013.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) sent a referral to the Justice Department in 2024, alleging that Schiff received tax breaks in California while also claiming a Maryland home as his primary residence for loan benefits. The alleged misconduct could involve violations of federal wire and mail fraud statutes.
