Former Georgian president Salome Zurabishvili said the country should follow the example of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, who are holding peace talks with US mediation, and end its isolation under Russia’s influence.

Speaking on the eve of the anniversary of the 2008 war with Russia, Zurabishvili visited the Mukhatskverdi cemetery and said the war “has not ended” and today continues in the form of a “hybrid war” against Georgia. She said Russia is waging a “military war in Ukraine” and a “hybrid war in Georgia.”

The former president stressed the importance for the region of the Aug. 7–8 meeting in Washington between US President Donald Trump, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and expressed regret that Georgia is not participating in these processes.
