Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Magadan on Thursday, where he is expected to visit a fish processing plant, a cultural center and a sports complex, and meet with regional governor Sergey Nosov, Interfax reported, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“Given the size of our country, the president never misses an opportunity to address regional matters,” Peskov told reporters.

Putin will later travel to Alaska for a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled to take place at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage. The talks, set for 11:00 a.m. local time (22:00 Moscow), will focus on ending the Russia-Ukraine war, according to the White House.

Pro-Ukrainian activists held a protest in Anchorage on the eve of the meeting, with more demonstrations expected on the day of the summit.
