Zelensky arrives in Washington for talks with Trump and EU leaders on peace deal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Washington for high-stakes talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders aimed at pursuing a potential peace agreement with Russia.
According to the White House, Zelensky and Trump will meet in the Oval Office at 1:15 p.m. local time (9:15 p.m. Baku time). Trump will then host a meeting with European officials, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and others.
Security has been tightened in central Washington, with roadblocks, checkpoints, and increased police presence near the White House.
Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s demand for a just peace, rejecting territorial concessions and recalling past failed guarantees. He thanked the U.S. and allies for their support, saying joint pressure could compel Russia to negotiate seriously.
Trump earlier claimed that Zelensky could “end the war almost immediately” by abandoning Crimea and NATO ambitions.
