Russia launched a large-scale overnight drone and missile attack on southern Ukraine, targeting energy facilities in Odesa and Poltava regions, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Monday.

Explosions were reported in the cities of Odesa, Izmail, and Tatarbunary after waves of Shahed-type drones and ballistic missiles hit critical infrastructure. The mayor of Odesa, Hennadii Trukhanov, urged residents to remain in shelters. Air raid alerts were also declared in central and western regions, including Poltava, Zhytomyr, Volyn, and Rivne.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy confirmed damage to oil infrastructure and elements of the gas transmission system. Fires broke out in Kremenchuk and Lubny, and debris was reported in multiple locations.

The attack marked one of the largest overnight air assaults in recent weeks, with the Ukrainian military saying it intercepted 230 of 270 drones launched by Russian forces.

This is the second confirmed strike on SOCAR’s oil facility in Odesa in less than a month, prompting diplomatic condemnation from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
