The Pentagon is reportedly developing plans to deploy U.S. military forces—including potentially thousands of National Guard members—to Chicago as early as September, in an initiative aimed at curbing crime, homelessness, and undocumented immigration, according to The Washington Post.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker condemned the effort as politically motivated and unnecessary, stating no request for assistance was made.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson noted sharp reductions in violence, citing a more than 30% drop in homicides, a 35% decrease in robberies, and nearly 40% fewer shootings.
