Moscow to introduce new migrant tracking system

Moscow to introduce new migrant tracking system
26.08.2025 14:30

Starting September 1, Moscow will introduce a new system to monitor migrants, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin told Kommersant’s “Komsomolskaya Pravda.” The program will resemble the COVID-era social register, when residents had to upload photos via an app.

“A similar program will be introduced for migrants — we will know their location,” Sobyanin said.

The mayor added that authorities had received approval to conduct “a number of experiments” to strengthen oversight. Biometric checks for migrants are already in place at all Moscow airports, and an electronic card storing all personal data is also being introduced.
