Serbia protests erupt in Novi Sad for second night
28.08.2025 14:00

Protests continued for a second night in the Serbian city of Novi Sad, with about 300 demonstrators clashing with police outside the Faculty of Philosophy, the Interior Ministry said.

Students and opposition supporters took part, throwing stones, eggs and fireworks while attempting to storm the building. Police used force and crowd-control measures to disperse them.

The protests began after a railway station roof collapse in Novi Sad on Nov. 1, 2024, that killed 16 people. Tensions escalated in mid-August, with demonstrators now demanding President Aleksandar Vucic’s resignation and early parliamentary elections.
