Merz says no deployment of Western troops to Ukraine before ceasefire

 German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said sending Western troops to Ukraine could not be considered until a ceasefire is reached.

“There will be no deployment of troops to Ukraine before that point,” Merz told broadcaster Sat.1, adding that even afterwards any deployment would only be possible with “substantial reservations” due to numerous obstacles.

Merz stressed that Berlin “in any case has no plans” to carry out a military mission in Ukraine.
