Zelenskiy: Putin got what he wanted from Trump summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russian leader Vladimir Putin achieved his goal at the Alaska summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.

In an interview with ABC News chief foreign correspondent Martha Raddatz, aired Sunday, Zelenskiy said, “I think President Trump gave Putin what he wanted. He very much wanted to meet the president of the United States, and he got it. That is very sad.”

Zelenskiy said Putin refuses to meet him, instead seeking photo opportunities with the U.S. leader. Asked about conditions for talks, he said Putin suggested a meeting only in Moscow — an offer he rejected. “He can come to Kyiv. I cannot go to Moscow while my country is under missile strikes every day,” Zelenskiy said.

The interview was recorded against the backdrop of a Russian strike on a U.S. Flextronics plant in Mukachevo. Zelenskiy stressed that more U.S. and European pressure was needed to force Russia toward ending the war.
