Iran’s Lake Urmia has almost completely dried up, with recent NASA satellite images showing it turned into a vast salt plain, Araz News reported.

Experts cite prolonged drought, climate change, dam construction and excessive agricultural water use as the main causes.

The lake’s desiccation has triggered severe ecological consequences, including declines in waterfowl populations and the spread of salt and dust in the air, posing new health risks to local residents.

Scientists say the natural balance.
