Kyiv urges sanctions on Russia’s oil giants

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko called on the United States and European Union to cut off Russia’s oil revenues by imposing restrictions on its major energy companies.

Writing on Telegram after joining a U.S.-EU meeting opened by President Donald Trump and hosted by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Svyrydenko welcomed international efforts to secure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

She said sanctions had already cost Russia more than $160 billion and urged further pressure: “I called on our partners to step up by imposing tough sanctions against the shadow fleet, oil giants, refineries, traders and intermediaries. Only decisive measures can weaken Russia’s resources for waging war and stop its daily crimes and terror.”

The EU is preparing its 19th package of sanctions against Russia, expected to be presented by Sept. 12. Bloomberg has reported the new measures may target Russia’s energy sector, crypto exchanges and payment systems.
