Georgia to boycott EU meeting after being invited only at ambassador level

Georgia will not take part in a European Union foreign ministers’ meeting on cooperation with Central Asia and Eastern Partnership states in Luxembourg on Oct. 20, the country’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry said the EU invited the foreign ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, but extended an invitation to Georgia only at the ambassadorial level, which it called “unacceptable.”
The statement said the move showed a “lack of seriousness” and amounted to “another attempt to use Georgia’s participation in EU events for political speculation and to encourage a radical agenda and polarization.”
It added that Georgia’s participation at the proper level in discussions on regional security and cooperation was in the interests of EU member states.
