Spanish defence minister’s plane targeted by GPS jamming over Kaliningrad

A Spanish Air Force A330 carrying Defence Minister Margarita Robles experienced GPS disruption while flying over Russia’s Kaliningrad region en route to Lithuania, El Mundo reported.
The aircraft was headed to the Šiauliai air base on Sept 24 when it came under what the crew described as an attempt to divert the plane off course using GPS interference. Such incidents are common during both civilian and military flights over the enclave, the commander said.
The attempt was unsuccessful as the military plane relied on satellite navigation. Robles is scheduled to meet Lithuanian Defence Minister Dovile Šakalyene.
The incident comes after 13 EU member states urged the European Commission to address disruptions of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in the bloc.
