AFFA appoints Ayhan Abbasov as Azerbaijan head coach after an interim spell

The Azerbaijan Football Federation (AFFA) confirmed that Ayhan Abbasov will continue as head coach of the national team after serving on an interim basis.

AFFA president Rovshan Najaf praised Abbasov’s work with the under-21s and the team’s recent 1-1 draw against Ukraine in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Abbasov, who replaced Fernando Santos following his dismissal, had insisted on a full contract rather than a temporary role. AFFA did not disclose the length or terms of the agreement.
