Trump compares Ukraine war to World War Two, hints at new Russia sanctions

U.S. President Donald Trump said Ukraine and Russia “will soon sit down at the negotiating table,” stressing that “there are many reasons” for both sides to do so. He made the remarks during talks with Finnish President Alexander Stubb at the White House.

Trump described the conflict in Ukraine as “worse than World War Two,” calling it one of the most destructive wars of modern times.

He said the U.S. and NATO allies are “increasing pressure” on the parties, with Washington selling “a lot of NATO weapons, mostly to Ukraine.”

Trump added that Washington may consider further sanctions against Russia, depending on the course of diplomacy.

He also suggested that Spain might “frankly have to be thrown out of NATO.”
