Georgia says EU visa-free threats ‘baseless’

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili dismissed suggestions that the European Union could suspend the country’s visa-free travel regime, calling such threats “groundless.”
She said EU member states had no intention of turning the issue into a tool of political pressure. “It has become clear that talk of cancelling visa-free travel and using it as pressure on Georgia is baseless. The EU is not ready to turn the visa-free regime into an instrument of politics,” Bochorishvili said.
She added that there was insufficient support within the bloc to advance such a measure and no concrete steps were expected toward suspension.
