India plans to purchase a large batch of missiles from Russia for its S-400 air defense systems, news agency ANI reported, citing defense sources.

“The Indian Air Force intends to acquire a significant number of missiles to strengthen its air defense capability. Negotiations with the Russian side are already underway,” one source told ANI.

The deal could be worth about 100 billion rupees ($1.1 billion). India’s Defence Ministry is expected to consider the Air Force proposal at the Defence Acquisition Council meeting scheduled for Oct. 23, the report said.
