Russia blocks new user registrations on Telegram and WhatsApp

Russian telecom operators have been prohibited from transmitting SMS or voice calls containing authorization codes for Telegram and WhatsApp registrations, according to local media.

Beeline users have already reported not receiving SMS from Telegram. Sources say new account registrations may soon become impossible, and login to existing accounts may also face disruptions.
