Maduro approves Venezuela’s comprehensive national defense law
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has signed into law the Comprehensive National Defense Command Act, previously approved by parliament.
on Venezolana de Televisión, Maduro said the law establishes Comprehensive Defense Commands at the national, state, and municipal levels — in line with the country’s constitution.
“The law provides for the creation of Comprehensive National Defense Commands across all 335 municipalities of the republic,” Maduro stated.
He explained that the new structure is tasked with ensuring that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces remain ready to operate under any circumstances.
From the moment of signing, these commands must be established and made operational nationwide, he added.
Maduro further noted that, as part of the country’s evolving defense doctrine, Venezuela has developed a comprehensive defense concept aimed at preserving peace, promoting national development, and covering all forms of national resistance.
“The Venezuelan people must embrace this comprehensive defense concept to safeguard their constitutional rights,” the president emphasized.
Maduro also recalled that Venezuela now faces the most serious threat of U.S. aggression in the past 100 years.
He said Washington has accused his government of failing to combat drug trafficking effectively.
