German MP calls Scholz’s refusal to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine a mistake

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made a mistake by refusing to supply Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine, Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) said in an interview with Bild.

“The chancellor made a mistake. There are no valid reasons not to deliver Taurus,” Kiesewetter said.

He added that neither Germany’s intelligence agencies nor defense companies had objections to the transfer, but Merz made the decision on his own and “failed to keep his word.”

According to the MP, Merz rejected the delivery out of concern for public reaction but failed to prepare German society for such decisions — a move that now leaves the country “to deal with the consequences.”

Kiesewetter said U.S. discussions over possible Tomahawk deliveries highlight Europe’s insufficient action in supporting Ukraine, adding that Merz’s stance has weakened trust in him both domestically and internationally.
