First day of Ukraine talks ends with no agreement

The first day of talks in Geneva between delegations from the United States, Ukraine and European partners ended without a final agreement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

Rubio described the discussions as “very productive” and said work would continue on the U.S. peace proposal, which contains 26–28 points depending on the version. Several issues remain unresolved, and any final text will require approval from the presidents, he added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the current draft reflects several of Kyiv’s “critical priorities.” European officials meanwhile introduced an alternative 24-point plan.

Talks will continue.
