Ukrainian drones strike Russian energy facilities
Ukrainian drones attacked Russia’s Oryol region overnight on December 2, triggering a fire at local fuel and energy infrastructure, regional governor Andrei Klychkov said.
According to him, the blaze broke out at energy facilities in the Livny district. No casualties were reported, and emergency crews are working at the site.
The city of Livny hosts the Livny thermal power plant, the main electricity and heating provider in the area. It is unclear whether the plant itself was the target. The outlet Astra notes that the city also has an “Orelnefteprodukt” oil depot.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said 45 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight over Russian regions and Crimea, including 14 over Bryansk region. One drone was downed over Oryol region, the ministry added.
Rosaviatsiya reported temporary nighttime closures of airports in Vladikavkaz, Grozny, Nalchik, Magas, Makhachkala, Krasnodar and Tambov.
In late October, Klychkov said debris from downed drones fell on the territory of the Oryol thermal power plant, damaging power infrastructure. The Ukrainian military at the time claimed they had struck the facility with Neptune cruise missiles, asserting the plant supplied power to military factories.
