Turkey may open its border with Armenia ahead of elections
03.12.2025 16:00

Turkey is considering opening its land border with Armenia within the next six months, a move that would end the last closed frontier in Europe dating back to the Cold War era and create conditions for the resumption of trade in the South Caucasus, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

A diplomatic breakthrough with Azerbaijan and the potential opening of the border with Turkey could give Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan an important political boost ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for June 2026.

According to the sources, only after such agreements are reached could Turkey appoint an ambassador to Armenia and fully restore diplomatic relations between the two countries.
