Azerbaijan to expand hemodialysis services with new hospital units

Azerbaijan’s Medical Services Agency (TABIB) is expanding diagnostic and treatment services for patients with chronic kidney failure, including access to hemodialysis. A total of 45 hemodialysis units currently operate in TABIB-affiliated hospitals, offering 678 beds — 247 in Baku and 431 in regional facilities. Nearly 4,200 patients receive hemodialysis free of charge, attending sessions one to three times per week depending on medical need.

TABIB says several hospitals will open new hemodialysis units next year. Construction and installation work is under way in medical facilities in Baku as well as in the central district hospitals of Goychay, Ujar and Gadabay.

The agency notes that expanding the number of units aims to improve service accessibility and quality. A commission established in 2023 oversees the organisation of dialysis services, ensures compliance with modern standards and addresses identified gaps. The commission holds weekly sessions at the Clinical Medical Center, where patients may apply based on a physician’s referral and examination results.
