That’s the great news from the Met Office’s latest forecast. But if you’re heading off to Wimbledon or Glastonbury this month you’d better pack a brolly. Both events look like they could be hit by downpours.Last week weathermen warned we can expect more heavy summer showers in the future as climate change takes hold. But meteorologists said there was a “low” chance of a repeat of 2012’s washout summer this year.Tourism chiefs are desperate for a dry July and August, with some huge events lined up including the UK stages of the Tour de France plus the British Grand Prix at the start of next month.Visit England’s Angelah Sparg said: “Tourism businesses had a slow start to the year with the floods, so they will welcome a good summer forecast."Good weather is a great way to entice people out and about."Met Office experts said we are more than twice as likely to get temperatures well above the norm rather than well below. If the mercury tops an average of 15.25C day and night it will make summer 2014 one of the top nine hottest summers ever. The record, set back in the sizzling summer of 2006, is 15.78C.Since 2009 when weathermen wrongly promised a “barbecue” season the Met Office has been reluctant to release its summer outlook to the public. But the Government, transport chiefs and local councils are still privately briefed on the forecast. It says cool Atlantic low pressure weather systems should be blocked by expected high pressure over northern Europe. And warmer North Sea temperatures are also expected to let continental heat reach the UK.The Daily Star Sunday reported on May 25 that Weather Services International forecasted highs up to 36C (97F) this year, right up there with the record in 2003 and 2006.(dailystar.co.uk)Bakudaily.az
