UN appoints interim resident coordinator in Azerbaijan
The United Nations has appointed an interim resident coordinator in Azerbaijan, the head of the UN Development Coordination Office, Carolina Azevedo, said.
According to her statement, Muhammad Nasar Hayat, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Azerbaijan, has been appointed interim UN resident coordinator.
The mandate of the current UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva, officially expires on Jan. 8, 2026.
The newly appointed resident coordinator is currently serving in another country and is expected to take up the post in Azerbaijan on July 1, 2026. During the transition period from Jan. 9 to Jan. 14, 2026, Hayat will temporarily perform the duties of head of the UN representation in Azerbaijan.
